The Aarong 40 Years Festival was inaugurated on October 25th at Army Stadium by chief guest Asaduzzaman Noor, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairperson of BRAC; Tamara Hasan Abed, Senior Director, BRAC Enterprises gave opening remarks to kick off the 3-day festival celebrating the enterprise’s 40th anniversary.
During a special programme arranged on October 25th evening, Aarong recognized 40 outstanding craftsperson and entrepreneurs from various industries at the festival.
On October 26th evening, Aarong captivated the audience through its meticulously crafted attires featured in the Aarong Fashion Show which also showcased TAAGA, TAAGA MAN and HERSTORY by Aarong. Selected Jamdani outfits from the fashion show will be available in stores later this month and all other featured outfits will be available in early 2019. On October 27th evening, a concert was held with Nagar Baul James, Minar, and Joler Gaan.
Participants at the festival experienced live craft demonstrations and took part in workshops with artisans from around the country at 11 different craft exhibits. They also enjoyed food stalls, a carnival area for children and special benefits at partner stalls throughout the festival. Aarong was established in 1978 to support the lives and livelihoods of rural artisans. Over the last 40 years, Aarong has fused traditional, indigenous Bangladeshi heritage with contemporary design, setting the fashion and lifestyle trends of the country.
