5 ways Aarong supports Fair Trade

Aarong is a certified member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). Here are five ways Aarong supports Fair Trade:

1. Ethical sourcing

To ensure ethical sourcing we constantly monitor and ensure our production facilities have safe working conditions and protection against occupational health hazards.

2. Supporting development programmes

As a social enterprise we transfer 50% of our surplus to BRAC, the world’s largest NGO. This surplus is used in different development programs in pursuit of our mission.

3. Empowering marginalized artisans

Aarong works with marginalised artisans in the most remote and rural areas of Bangladesh, 90% of whom are women.

4. Environmentally friendly products

Handcrafted products have little to no carbon emissions in the production process. Many of our products also use fully sustainable materials such as natural fibres and dyes.

5. Ensuring instant payments

We ensure instant payment of goods to our producer groups unlike the market practice of payment after sales.
