Screen Printing

Jan 28,2026

Screen printing in Bangladesh merges modern technique with traditional design sensibility. Introduced in the late 20th century, the craft found depth in the hands of artisans who infused it with folkloric motifs and local narratives. Designs are transferred through fine mesh screens, applied layer by layer with precise hand alignment to achieve clarity, texture, and depth. At Aarong’s Ayesha Abed Foundation production centre, screen printing serves as both a creative discipline and a source of empowerment for young artisans, particularly women. The technique is applied across a wide textile repertoire, from sarees and punjabis to salwar kameez, kurtis, and contemporary fabric collections, allowing heritage-inspired motifs to flow seamlessly into everyday and occasion wear. Each piece carries the subtle irregularity of the hand, transforming printed textiles into expressions of craft, culture, and modern ingenuity.
